Who
am I? Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? Whether we are 18 or 80, we will face these questions at
some point in our life. Our soul will always long to know the "ulitimate why" for living. The sooner we ask and
find answers the better. It is never too late, but often we wait until we are fully entrenched in a life that brings
no joy or fulfillment before we seek answers. We start out in life wondering what job we should choose, what we should
study in college, should we get married, should we have kids, buy a house, get a dog. On and on the questions roll.
There is no shortage of people to tell us who we ought to be. Well meaning parents, teachers, friends, and others are
full of good advice. The world tells us that money, prestige, power, relationships, etc. will bring us satisfaction
and fulfillment in life. Unfortunately none of this advice or these things will adequately answer the question of our
purpose in life. Discouraged yet? Don't be! The answers can be found if we look in the right place.

God is Calling YOU!
Only God can tell
us who we are truly born to be. Saint Augustine (a famous old dude) once said, "God made us for Himself, and we'll be
restless until we find ourselves in Him." God called Noah and Abraham, Issac and Jacob, the prophets and the kings.
He called all of humanity to Him through His son Jesus who in turn called His disciples and apostles individually. God
is calling to each and every one of us by His name right now. We will only find ourselves in Him by answering the call
to follow Jesus. Our primary purpose in life then is to follow Christ by Him, to Him and for Him. Our vocations,
(what we should DO) will be made clear then in the midst of our answer to God's primary call of who we are. What we
do in the course of our lives may change, but our primary purpose (who we are) will not. We will have ultimate fulfillment
and joy in life only as we do what we are rather than becoming what we do.

So how do we answer this
primary call to follow Christ? Let us read on together, dig into the word, and discover how to follow the spiritual
disciplines that will allow us to hear God's voice and see His vision for who we ought to be!

Questions for reflection:
-What kind of advice have you been given on what you should do
with your life? Make a list of the suggestions and ask yourself which ones will likely bring you happiness and why?
-If money were no object, what would you truly want to do in your
life? What are you passionate about?
-Read Genesis 1 and answer why you think God made us.
-What do you think is the difference between the primary calling
of following Jesus and the secondary callings that make up what we DO with our lives?
-Read Matthew 6:25-34. What is Jesus trying to tell us about
life and the things we spend so much time and energy on trying to control? (Hint: read v.33)
